Masters in Sociology: Graduate program information

The M.A. program in sociology prepares students to apply sociological perspectives and methods to the analysis of social realities. Grounded in a strong theoretical and substantive understanding of social institutions, social relations, and social policy, as well as in advanced research and data analytic skills, students are prepared to be effective and experienced practitioners in the field of applied social research or to continue into doctoral studies in the field.

Our graduates have taught sociology at a variety of community colleges, and some go on to prestigious PhD programs.  We also have an excellent track record of placing our graduates in non-academic jobs, working in non-governmental organizations such as Global Green USA and Soccer Without Borders or as institutional research directors in educational institutions, or in marketing research, or in administrative positions in social service agencies.

Our faculty come from around the country (and the world) and publish actively in their respective fields.  At the same time, the relatively small size of our department creates a learning community that allows considerable one-on-one time between faculty and graduate students.  If you would like to pursue your MA in a supportive, personalized, and intellectually stimulating environment, Lehigh is for you!

We offer funding to our most competitive applicants through teaching fellowships that provide full tuition and an annual stipend for the two years of the program.  We also have a special Community Fellows program that greatly reduces the cost of graduate school, while giving students the opportunity to work in local community organizations and complete their degrees in just one year.
