Anthropology major wins library research prize

Sophia Dent, a senior double-majoring in Biology and Anthropology, is one of two students to win the 2013 Student Research Prize from the Lehigh University Library. She and fellow awardee Bridget Joyce were selected from among 40 submissions for the prize this year.

Sophia wrote her paper "The Applications of Archaeogenetics: Assessing the Nutrition Profiles of Native American Groups"  for Professor Cameron Wesson’s North American Archeology course. Her paper is recognized for its strong bibliography and use of primary resources, and also for skillful integration of two disciplinary approaches. Dent demonstrates exceptional working knowledge of each discipline's contributions to issues of diet, health, and nutrition. Dent is from La Plata, MD. In the fall she will begin a PhD program in anthropology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
