Alum research in the spotlight

Research conducted by Margaret Hagerman (B.A. '04, M.A. '06), now an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology at Mississippi State University, is featured in the latest issue of the College of Arts & Sciences' Acumen magazine. Dr. Hagerman's work examines the ways white American middle class children's ideas about race are shaped by their parents' choices regarding matters such as where to send them to school, which neighborhood to live in, where to take vacations and who belongs in their children's peer groups. She has published her findings in leading social scientific journals including the Journal of Marriage and Family, Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, Ethnic and Racial Studies, and Sociological Studies of Children and Youth.
